Solemn Time Capsule Ceremony of multifunctional shopping center “Akropole” in Riga has taken place

Today, on 21st of July in Riga, Maskavas iela 257, solemn Time Capsule Ceremony of multifunctional shopping center “Akropole” took place. During the event visitors were able to visit the construction site of the future multifunctional shopping centre, learn about planned placement of buildings and find out more about new level of shopping and entertainment experience that “Akropole” will bring in the future.

Creation of multifunctional shopping center “Akropole” is one of the most magnificent and significant commercial projects in this decade in Latvia. From the moment when “Akropole” and SIA “Merks” signed the contract on 7th of April this year about the start of the construction works in a full amount, the project is rapidly developing. In order to celebrate the vision of development of the area and that the first shape of new level shopping and entertainment experience is arising. In the event participated participated Mayor of Riga Nils Ušakovs, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Latvia Artūras Žurauskas, Chairman of SIA Merks Oskars Ozoliņš, Akropole Rīga director Saule Zabulionytė and other guests.

“Being on this historical place of former Kuznecov porcelain and fajance factory, today we turn a new page in history of this site - soon there will be an opening of a very special landmark of this area. Multifunctional shopping center “Akropole” will be the most modern shopping and entertainment center in the capital city of Latvia. Our plans here are not only to offer a wide variety of newest concept shops and entertainment, but most importantly - with opening of “Akropole” we want to carry out significant positive changes. Our aim is to provide a whole new level of experience both for local inhabitants and visitors of the city as well as provide 1500 people a place to work. We strive to offer our future visitors a friendly place, where everyone could simply feel good and spend quality time with their families. It is important to note that we are not turning away history of the place - legacy of legendary Kuznecov factory will be renewed and merged with new environment. “Any city can only be glad that there are investors who are willing to invest 200 million EUR and to repair a huge degraded territory of the city as well as provide 1500 new jobs. Therefore, the city of Riga is very pleased that this project is being implemented here and would like to wish on behalf of the city that “Akropole” will succeed not only in trade, but also with providing a very important social function - offering recreational and entertainment possibilities for people of this area to whom it is very important,” addressed in his speech Nils Ušakovs, Mayor of Riga.

As reported previously, “Akropole” will be one of the largest and most modern shopping and entertainment multifunctional centers in the Latvia. The total area of the building will be around 98 thousand m2, from which a total area of around 9 thousand m2 will be high class business offices. Developers of multifunctional shopping center “Akropole” will provide a new generation offer in one place, as well as implement impressive landscaping and improvement of environment by planting more than 700 new conifers, deciduous trees and shrubs, including more than 400 large trees. Also this will be the first shopping center which is built in accordance of BREEAM, which is World's leading certification for sustainability.
